[[世界標準の経営理論]]によると、理論そのものがなにかについては諸説あるが、理論の目的はHow、When、Whyに応えることであるとコンセンサスがほぼとれているとある。 - how: 「X -> Y」のような因果関係。 - when: その理論が通用する範囲。(boundary condition) - why：因果関係がなぜそうなのかに対する説明。 "The primary goal of a theory is to answer the questions of how, when, and why, unlike the goal of desciption, which is to answer the question of what".
